Vice Minister Yu Kangzhen meets OIE Director General Monique Eloit

Vice Minister Yu Kangzhen met Dr. Monique Eloit, Director General of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), in Beijing on 24 April 2017. The two sides exchanged views on furthering China-OIE cooperation in animal health.

 

Vice Minister Yu spoke highly of the vital role played by the OIE in promoting global animal health and welfare and food safety, acknowledged the support provided by the OIE to China and highly recognized the positive results in China-OIEcooperation. 

 

Vice Minister Yu briefed about the latest development in agriculture and rural economy, and veterinary service in China, stressing that the MOA has always attached great importance to China-OIE exchanges and cooperation. The ongoing Belt and Road Initiative has offered a historical opportunity for further cooperation between China and the OIE. China is willing to work with the OIE to cooperate in the standard-setting and revision of animal health, information system development, personnel exchanges and OIE institution building to contribute to the global veterinary service. 

 

Dr. Monique Eloit thanked the MOA for its long-standing support for the OIE and spoke highly of China's remarkable achievement in veterinary service, participation and its role in global veterinary service.She expressed that the OIE looks forward to strengthening cooperation with China, particularly in the World Animal Health Information System (WAHIS).

 

Present at the meeting were senior officials from relevant departments of the MOA and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) of China.
